Counselling is a talking therapy and a great way to provide you with strategies to navigate particular issues or feelings that you are experiencing and to focus on specific problems. The work we do together can involve exploring tools to help you. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) is a good example which can help re-frame situations, enabling a difference perspective. It is often short term or can be long term and is solution focused at addressing personal issues such as anxiety and depression. Many people come with feelings of anxiety, low self esteem, depression and sometimes just feeling of being 'stuck' or overwhelmed with life, relationships or certain situations. In my experience with clients, its often the feeling 'stuck' bit that can cause anxiety and depression. When you start to explore this more deeply, therapy can shine a light in areas that you haven't seen. Feeling stuck can often make people feel powerless and hopeless. Therapy can be empowering, promote autonomy and clarity to give you the confidence to thrive in life.
Communication is another really common thing that people like to focus on. Its amazing how many problems at home/work and with relationships are caused through miss-communication. Verbal communication takes up very little space, the rest is made up of body language, facial expressions, tone and energy. Its also so important and more importantly to learn how to communicate how you are feeling, to be seen and heard.
I do not see couples for couples counselling but i do see a lot of people that come to me individually before going into couples therapy. This is a good opportunity to really look at what you want to get out of couples work, what you want to focus on and whats important to you. It can save a lot of time as you've done the ground work and go in with clear expectation's of what you want to achieve.
Over the years i have worked with a lot of women experiencing the menopause. This process in life is natural and we cant change that. What we can focus on is what you can and want to change, how you want to see this next chapter of your life. Some women who begin therapy have never taken any time to have a relationship with themselves. Therapy can be the first step to giving yourself permission to focus on yourself.
We will work collaboratively to find a way that works for you.
